Oveson Family

Isn’t it about…time?

We had such a nice 24th of July!  It was just a fun family day!  We started out the day at the Ogden Parade.  In the past we’ve always watched it from the windows at Mike’s work.  Unfortunately that wasn’t the case this year and we had to find our own spot!

After that we took the boys down to the Church History Museum.  We figured that was a good use of pioneer day.  They had so much fun!  They loved walking around and learning about the the exhibits.

And they especially loved the children’s section!

That evening we went to Michelle and Jim’s house for a bar-b-que with the Oveson side of the family.  The boys love seeing this side of our family, and had so much fun playing wii and lightsabers with Uncle Jim!

At the end of our very crazy exhausting Sun Valley trip we realized we’d taken 1000’s of pictures and hours of video, and nothing of us!  So here we are in the parking lot on the last day, taking at least a couple pictures of us!!!

Zach and Pres both did AWESOME this year in swimming lessons!  They both passed their levels, and we never had one second of hestitation or fear!  This was especially an accomplishment for Preston who was a little nervous last year.  It helped that Isaac was in Zach’s class and Lucas and Eli were in Preston’s class!  So fun!

This is “blog catch up time.”  And one thing we have to blog are our fun cousin adventures.  My boys look forward to these every week!  I’m afraid when school starts they are going to go through cousin withdrawls!  They feel like they have to see their cousins every single day or they are going to die!  I’m so glad they have such great cousins living so close!

For cousin adventure day #7 we took the boys down to the Bingham Canyon Mine.  As you can imagine, this was an ideal place for 8 little boys – they LOVED it!  In fact, just yesterday Zach asked when we are going to go there again!

For cousin adventure #9 it was actually a 2 day adventure!  Mike and I went to an ice skating shoot in Sun Valley, and Liz (along with each of the Grandmas) took turns watching our kids (thank you, thank you, thank you!!).  So we counted the 2 days they were with Liz as our cousin adventure for that week.  They had a blast!  My boys were looking forward to us leaving so much that I was trying to decide whether to be grateful that they are so well adjusted, or to have my feelings hurt that they weren’t the slightest bit sad that we were leaving.  In fact, when pulled up to Liz’s Zach yelled “YEA!  I’ve been waiting for this for weeks!”  Then he grabbed his bag, jumped out of the van, and yelled, “Bye Mom and Dad!”  as he ran up to the door.  Of course we followed him up, but he would have be perfectly content to have us leave him at the curb.  And Preston and Kyle did just as well.  Thank goodness!  I’d never left Kyle overnight before, so I was a little apprehensive, but from all accounts he did great.  Here’s a picture I stole off Liz’s blog from the adventure:

Cousin adventure day this week fell on our anniversary and we made it a family cousin adventure (thanks to Liz and Mike!).  We went to the Ogden Rodeo, and once again the boys all had a blast.  The only difficult part was sitting on the front row with all the little boys  – they all wanted to run and explore.

Zach and Preston’s favorite part was the motorcyle tricks at the end – they were awesome!  Kyle’s favorite parts were the Cowgirls and the Beer girls.  Everytime a Cowgirl would ride around he would get all excited.  And everytime a girl walked by selling beer he would smile and wave at her like crazy.  We’re going to have to watch out for this child!!  Here he is – clapping for the cowgirls!

The other exciting thing that happened was the Zach got one of the t-shirts they were throwing out.  He was SO excited!  He was really cute too – he kind of felt bad that Isaac and Preston didn’t get one so he kept saying things like “I bet you will catch one next year!”  and “Maybe we could kind of share it.”  How sweet!

I’m sure most of you have heard by now that Mike got laid off of Monday.  Sad…Stress!!  And on our anniversary of all days!  So…  if anyone knows of any job leads please pass them our way!  We appreciate all the help and prayers so far!  We know it will all work out and that the Lord is watching out for us.  We just hope we learn whatever we are supposed to learn QUICKLY!!

Mike found this on someone else’s blog today and we laughed so hard.  Maybe we’re the only ones who can relate, but we found it all too true!

I decided to water my garden.

As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I looked over at my car and decided mycar needs washing.

As I started toward the garage, I noticed that there is mail on the porch tablethat I brought up from the mail box earlier.

I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.

I lay my car keys down on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can underthe table, and notice that the can is full.

So I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage first.

But then I think, since I’m going to be near the mailbox when I take out thegarbage anyway, I may as well pay the bills first.

I take my check book off the table, and see that there is only 1 check left. Myextra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the house to my deskwhere I find a can of Coke that I had been drinking.

I’m going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the coke aside sothat I don’t accidentally knock it over. I see that the coke is getting warm, and I decide I should put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.

As I head toward the kitchen with the Coke, a vase of flowers on the countercatches my eye– they need to be watered.

I set the Coke down on the counter, and I discover my reading glasses that I’vebeen searching for all morning. Then I decide I better put them back on mydesk, but first I’m going to water the flowers.

I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water andsuddenly I spot the TV remote. Someone left it on the kitchen table. I realizethat tonight when we go to watch TV, I will be looking for the remote, but Iwon’t remember that it’s on the table, so I decide to put it back in the denwhere it belongs, but first I’ll water the flowers.

I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spilled on the floor. So, I set the remote back on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill, then, I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do.

At the end of the day:

—-the car isn’t washed,
—-the bills aren’t paid,
—-there is a warm can of Coke sitting on the counter,
—-the flowers don’t have enough water,
—-there is still only 1 check in my checkbook,
—-I can’t find the remote,
—-I can’t find my glasses,
—-and I don’t remember what in the word I did with the car keys!

Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I’m really baffled, because I know I was busy all day long, and I’m really tired.

You all gotta go check out this news story and KSL ad from our friend Kelli.  SO HILARIOUS!  If you know any single guys out there they can’t pass this up!  Good luck Kelli! :>

(K, so not the MOST flattering pic of me.  It’s after water games at Youth Conference a few years ago, but it’s what I could find!)

Zach has always been a great reader, but he would read because he had to.  It was a chore.   All that has now changed since he started reading the Magic Tree House books!  We read them all to the boys a couple years ago, but he doesn’t really remember much from them, and he is totally eating them up!  It’s awesome!  He reads each book in about an hour and a half start to finish and hates to put them down.  And he keeps talking about how he LOVES reading now!

read

This picture is a great example.  It’s from Sunday.  He walked in the door, started changing out of his suit, but as you can see he only got halfway changed before he picked up his book.  He was so engrossed that Preston and I kept trying to talk to him and we couldn’t even get him to glance up or answer until the book was all the way done.  It was nuts!  But we’re so excited that he finally caught the reading bug!  There’s no stopping him now!
