Isn’t it about…time?

We had Kyle’s fun first birthday party on Saturday!  He’d been sick most of the week, and we were a little worried about how it would all go, but luckily it went well!  (No throwing up!  YEA!)  We had a yummy pasta dinner…  I think pasta is our standard “1st Birthday Dinner” around here – but babies love it!

Kyle’s favorite part was showing off his superb walking skills.  He was so proud of himself each time he walked across the room to someone else!!  Of course we all were just as proud as he was!  Check out those grins!!

We had 2 cute cakes.

Unfortunatley not all was fun and games with the cake.  I was a very wise Mommy and decided to light the candle – I figured I could just watch him close and blow it out for him.  Well, it only takes a moment, right?  I turned for a second to tell Zach and Isaac to step back a little and in that brief moment Kyle reached out and grabbed the candle.  Poor boy!!  I wasn’t a bad burn, but bad enough to hurt him a lot!  Here he is before the candle incident:

And here he is after:

Poor Kyle!  After running it under cold water, picking wax off, and recovering, he was finally able to enjoy his cake!

And of course when you are the 3rd boy you never get to open presents alone!

What a fun party!  Thanks to everyone that came to celebrate with us!!

We had such a fun Easter weekend!  Here are some of the highlights!

We had our cousins on the Horrocks side sleep over Thursday night and all day Saturday.  It was fun, but I tell you – 7 boys would be a handful to raise!!  I was tired!  We are so lucky to live close to them and see them so often!!

Then on Saturday we went bowling and had an Easter party – again with my family.  We died eggs, had an egg hunt (in the rain), and all sorts of fun!

Then on Easter the Easter Bunny came to our house.  Among other things, he brought the boys a real live bunny!  Preston was certain it must be the Easter Bunny’s Son.  We had fun hunting for eggs and playing with the bunny before church.  While we were eating breakfast that morning, Mike told the boys that he had canceled meetings that morning, so that was why he was home with us.  One of the boys (I think Pres) said all excited, “Can you cancel sitting on the stand too?”  If only!! :>

This picture is the “What?!  Who me?! I’m not eating chocolate!” look.  We couldn’t keep him out of it!  We even found a foil wrapper in his diaper later that he obviously ate with some chocolate he snuck!  Yuck!

After church we went down to Grandma and Grandpa Oveson’s and had an Easter dinner and egg hunt.  We also celebrated early birthdays for Kyle and me!  Fun!

Not only that but we finally got to meet our new nephew Ben!  He was in the hospital for 3 weeks after he was born, and couldn’t have any visitors, and then everyone at our house was sick once he was home.  So we were excited to meet him!!

Unfortunately, when we got home – we discovered that tragedy had struck!  The bunny we had just gotten that morning was dead! We were so shocked and not looking forward to telling the boys!  Mike took care of it knowing that I had the harder job – telling the boys in the morning.  So the next morning I told the boys what had happened.  What was their reaction?  Zach said, “Well, do you have $24?  They are only $24 at IFA.”  And Pres said, “It died before we even had to do chores with it to give it food and water!”  Needless to say, they took it just fine.  And luckily, Mike was able to bring home another new bunny that night.  So, a new animal is joining the dog, 2 birds, and a fish at  the Oveson zoo.

Monday we had fun too – this time with the Oveson cousins!  We went to the Kangeroo Zoo and to lunch with them.  The boys had a blast together!  We don’t see those cousins often enough!

So, that is our “Super Fast Spring Break Recap Post!”  Fun, fun!  Now we are trying to get back to real life!

Wow!  Has it really been a YEAR already??!!  I can’t believe it!  It seems like just yesterday that Kyle became an official member of Team Oveson!  What a nutty delivery it was, but I was so relieved and excited that he finally got here safe and sound!  I guess the nutty delivery just prepared us for the nutty year it has been.  :>

From the first moment I met Kyle I had an overwhelming “I know you already!”  feeling.  He came with such a strong spirit that radiated so strong from him!  He has been a little miracle to our family, and we can’t imagine life without him!  He has always been a very sweet and loving, yet stubborn and determined little guy.   We like to say he has 2 moods – he’s screaming or he’s grinning from ear to ear – not a whole lot in between.  He knows what he wants, and he’s going to make sure he gets it.  He’s going to have no trouble keeping up with his big brothers, that’s for sure!!  It’s also been fun to watch him develop a sense of humor lately!  He is so funny, and he knows he is so funny!!  He’s such a little goof!

I love our little Kyle SO MUCH, and feel so blessed to have him in our family and get to watch him grow and learn everyday.   I am so excited to see him learn each new thing!  You would think he was my first child I get so excited for him!  But he is truly a blessing and I can’t wait to see his fun personality continue to grow!!

Here are some fun pictures form the past year:

Another General Conference has come and gone, and this one was as good as ever. I just wanted to share a few brief thoughts on the talks that touched me the most.

The entire conference was just great. I loved all of the speakers. I’ll just tackle each session and mention some things that stood out to me. The Spirit speaks to all of us according to our own circumstances, so hopefully we all have different things to share that reached us.

Straight out of the gate, Elder Hales gave an INCREDIBLE talk about self-reliance. I loved it. I found myself laughing inwardly as he described wanting to buy things for his wife when they didn’t have the money. Or when he thought he was buying something for her and his motives weren’t quite as simple. Elder Hales is a good man, certainly. It was just interesting to listen to him talk about some of the problems that many of us men have faced in similar situations. It was a wonderful talk and one that all of us would do well to listen to.

President Eyring’s talk on adversity was awesome! We do all face challenges, most certainly, but relying on the Lord is what gets us through such trials. We must work and do all that we can, but the Lord never leaves us alone if we seek His help. I’m a big fan of President Eyring, as he often cries when he speaks at conference. J

In the Saturday afternoon session I really enjoyed Elder Scott’s talk about temple worship. We are definitely a community with a temple in our “backyard” and we need to go. This is an area I need to focus on more. The temple brings us great power, and not only by making and keeping covenants. Whenever we return to do more work we receive a great boost, and I know that going to the temple often can help with many of life’s problems. Let’s all go there more.

I loved the talks in the Priesthood session. President Uchtdorf’s talk about not being distracted and not letting excuses or weaknesses prevent us from reaching our potential was just excellent. I think many of us could do even greater things than we now do if we didn’t weigh ourselves down or get distracted from what is most important. Let’s stay focused and do what is right! President Eyring’s talk about taking care of each other was great too.

Sunday morning’s session brought more good talks. I enjoyed Elder Snow’s story about his little granddaughter and her “need” to get on with her life. Very cute and his talk had a great point. Change is inevitable, and we can either improve ourselves and accept such change or we can be constantly frustrated as things that were slip away from us. Elder Holland’s talk about the atonement was very moving. It’s easy to see that he KNOWS the Savior, not just about Him. Elder Holland’s talks about the Atonement have always been good, and this one was no exception.

I really enjoyed Elder Oaks’ talk in the Sunday afternoon session. If we would serve constantly, unselfishly, I think our own troubles and many of the world’s troubles would be lessened. Everyone needs help, and helping others makes our own trials easier to bear. This world is rather selfish, and it takes an active decision to help others to fight the pride that the world offers. Elder Perry’s talk about missionary work was a good reminder that we ALL need to be working to bring other’s to Christ. It may not be easy, but it is part of our sacred responsibility and also a great privilege to help others receive the gospel.

Well, those are a few of my thoughts. I think it’s very important to listen to and read the talks again after Conference is over, because it slips away very quickly. The talks I have listened to on my iPod in the past week since conference are much easier to remember than those that I haven’t. So remember to study the words of the prophets and you’ll be greatly blessed.

Mike
